The 2009-10 Sovereign European Art Prize winner

David Birkin was selected by the prize judges as the winner of this year’s Sovereign European Art Prize and its 25,000 Euro award. The announcement came on the private view evening, which was attended by a large crowd of art lovers, supporters, press and those crucial people who have been involved in this years prize: the judges, nominators and artists.
A rather delighted and surprised David made a touching acceptance speech, dedicating it to his lovely wife Eloise. The works features himself and Eloise just before their marriage last year so the prize and speech were a fitting celebration of the couple in their first year of marriage.
All in all the evening was a summer success, no doubt helped by the stream of mojitos and cubra libre’s generously provided by Havana Club! The artists and judges meanwhile went on to dinner, hosted by and at Shoreditch House, where celebrations continued on till the early hours of the morning….
