On the 19th and 20th July, one of our finalists from the Sovereign Asian Art Prize, Yolanda Yeung, collaborated with the Sovereign Art Foundation to help the Watchdog Early Education Centre. The Watchdog Centre is a charitable organisation in Hong Kong that helps children with special educational needs. Both the children and Yolanda had a wonderful time!

YummyMummyAsia.com and Little Picasso Studios has so generously created The Living Tree to develop over ARTHK11 and auction at our next gala dinner for The Sovereign Art Foundation. Children are invited over the fair to contribute to the tree with their fingerpaints and famous artists visiting the fair are adding the leaves.

ARTHK11 opened last night and our SAF booth was mobbed as people watched Laura Spector paint Chadwick Gray creating a living painting. The duo were SAF finalists in 2006 and 2008 and will be conducting kids workshops during the weekend of the fair painting casts made from their hands and feet. Today we have been inundated with aspiring artists painting Vincent’s wall.

2010 Sovereign Asian Art Prize First Finalists’ exhibition is in Singapore!

After months of preparation, the first finalists’ exhibition finally opens tonight! Though I am not able to witness it myself as the first exhibition this year is in Singapore! Thanks to the committee and the team in Singapore who worked so hard to make this happen!

I will wait until January 2011 to see the actual artworks when the finalists tour Hong Kong

300 entries are received for the 2010 Sovereign Asian Art Prize

We have received 300 entries from 26 countries for the 2010 Sovereign Asian Art Prize! The prize this year is very exciting. This is the first year we have representations from Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan and Laos. If the artists are chosen to be the top 30, they get to tour their artwork in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong and possibly Australia for the finalists’ exhibition! All entries are now under review by the judges and I can’t wait for the top 30 finalists to be announced in August!

The 2009-10 Sovereign European Art Prize winner

David Birkin was selected by the prize judges as the winner of this year’s Sovereign European Art Prize and its 25,000 Euro award. The announcement came on the private view evening, which was attended by a large crowd of art lovers, supporters, press and those crucial people who have been involved in this years prize: the judges, nominators and artists.

A rather delighted and surprised David made a touching acceptance speech, dedicating it to his lovely wife Eloise. The works features himself and Eloise just before their marriage last year so the prize and speech were a fitting celebration of the couple in their first year of marriage.

All in all the evening was a summer success, no doubt helped by the stream of mojitos and cubra libre’s generously provided by Havana Club! The artists and judges meanwhile went on to dinner, hosted by and at Shoreditch House, where celebrations continued on till the early hours of the morning….
