1) Prizes

1.1) Winner

The winning entry, as selected by the Judging Panel, will be awarded a cash prize of US$30,000.

1.2) The Public Prize

The entry (other than the winning entry) determined by the Judging Panel as having received the most votes from the public will be awarded a cash prize of US$1,000.

2) Specifications

2.1) The Judging Panel will select 30 entries for this Competition as finalists; these will be exhibited at the Finalists’ Exhibition.

2.2) Each entry must comply with the requirements as stated herein. The Judging Panel reserves the right to make a final decision to accept any entry for this Competition.

2.3) Notwithstanding Condition 2.2, the decision of The Sovereign Art Foundation (“SAF”) on any and all matters relating to the Competition will be final and binding. The SAF and members of the Judging Panel are not obliged or bound to enter into any communications whatsoever regarding such decisions.

2.4) All entries must be the original work of the entrant(s). Entrants submitting work in the form of photographs, digital imagery/works or prints must not produce more than 5 editions of the work (“Limited Editions”) (with an additional two artist's proofs being allowed for each such entrant). Each entry must be signed and numbered, and be submitted with a declaration clearly stating the number of Limited Editions produced. All entrants agree not to make or sell any further reproductions of any work submitted as an entry for this Competition until after SAF declares that the entrants’ participation in the Competition is at an end.

2.5) All entries must be in two-dimensional (“2D”) form that conforms to the dimensions given under Condition 2.6 below. Sculptures, videos, and installations which are not in 2D form will not be accepted for this Competition. Acceptable entries are not limited to paintings, but also include photographs, digital imagery, collage and other 2D mediums.

2.6) DIMENSIONS: All entries (including any frame or mounting) should not exceed 200cm on any side, and should not be and thicker than 5cm in depth.Composite entries must fit within these sizes when placed together.

2.7) All entrants must be resident within either the region they are applying for, as defined by SAF. There are no other limits on nationality and age, although all entrants must be practicing artists and have previously exhibited some of their other works.

2.8) All entries must be available for sale in accordance with Condition 6 below and must remain so until the artists’ participation in the Competition is at an end, as pronounced by SAF.

2.9) Each entrant can submit up to three works as separate entries but only one of those submitted entries by each artist will be eligible for selection for the Finalists' Exhibition.

3) Submission Of Entries

3.1) All entrants must be nominated by one of the appointed nominators on the SAF website.

3.2) For initial judging, entrants are required to submit a good quality digital image (or if this is not possible, a good quality photograph/transparency) of the work together with the completed entry form to SAF at the following address. For each entry, the application may include another close up image showing the relevant work in detail.

3.3) All entries must be received by SAF on or before the following deadlines.

4) General Conditions

4.1) The entrants for the 30 final entries selected by the Judging Panel will be officially notified by email or post, and the selected works must be delivered, at the entrants’ expense, to a location as advised by SAF. Each of these entries must be marked clearly on the reverse with the title of the piece, the relevant entrant’s name and contact details.

4.2) It is intended that the 30 finalists will, at the discretion of SAF, be exhibited and publicized in an exhibition (“Finalists’ Exhibition”) and catalogue. SAF will, at its sole discretion, arrange media coverage and publicity of the Finalists’ Exhibition.

4.3) Unless otherwise agreed with SAF in writing, the entrant(s) for each finalist entry agrees and consents as follows:

  • a) Give SAF the rights to reproduce the images for any marketing purposes with regards to SAF and the prize events.
  • b) Give The Sovereign Group of companies the right to reproduce the images (with full credit to the artists) for Sovereign marketing materials.
  • c) SAF may produce limited edition prints of the winning works to further its charitable aims and will work with the artists consent and help to make them.
  • d) Consents to SAF dealing with the finalist entry, and its reproductions, in any manner as it deems fit.

4.4) The winning entry (under Condition 1.1) and the entry determined as winner of the Public Prize (under Condition 1.2) will be announced during the Finalists’ Exhibition or the Finalists’ Auction Dinner.

4.5) SAF reserves the right to reproduce images of any entry, take photos, etc for any documentary, educational, publicity or other purpose.

5) Finalist Submission

5.1) Each entry should be authenticated by the entrant(s) (e.g., signed and dated) in an appropriate place. If the entry is a photograph, digital work or print, the number of Limited Editions must be clearly declared with the entry application.

5.2) Each entry should be framed in order to protect and present the work. If the artist does not intend to exhibit the entry framed then adequate protection must be provided for the entry for storage and transportation.

5.3) Any frames must be durable for handling purposes; and unframed work should be suitably protected.

5.4) The organisers will be responsible for hanging the entries, and all frames, stretchers and works must be suitable for small screws and fixings for hanging purposes.

5.5) In some instances SAF can help print and mount digital works with artists guidelines (expenses will be deducted from the artists portion of the auction fee)

6) Sale of Work

6.1) It is intended that the 30 finalist entries selected for the Finalists’ Exhibition will be auctioned or otherwise sold by SAF. If a finalist entry is sold, the entrant(s) for that entry will be entitled to receive 50% of the sale proceeds with the other 50% being retained by SAF.

6.2) The entrants understand that in the event of his/her entry is selected as one of the finalist entries for the Finalists’ Exhibition and Auction, SAF will seek to obtain the best price possible for the entry. The entrants authorise SAF to accept the highest offer it receives for the entry irrespective of the amount.

6.3) Any unsold works must be collected at the expense of the entrants, and any works not collected will be dealt with as the SAF sees fit.

7) Judging Panel

7.1) SAF shall appoint the members of the Judging Panel without reference to any other third party, and publish the appointments on the SAF website.
