1) Prizes

1.1) Winner

The winning entry will be awarded a cash prize of US$25,000

1.2) The Public Prize (judged solely by public vote)

A special prize of US$1,000 will be awarded to the entry that receives the most votes from the public (first prize winner is excluded).

2) Specifications

2.1) The Judging Panel as defined below, will select the 30 final entries to be entered into the Finalists’ Exhibition

2.2) The entry must comply with the requirements as stated herein but the judging panel reserves the right to final acceptance.

2.3) The decision of SAF on any and all matters relating to the competition will be final and binding. Neither SAF nor the judges will be bound to enter into any correspondence regarding such decisions.

2.4) All entries must be original work. Photos, digital imagery or prints must be of an edition no larger than 5 (with an additional two artist's proofs being allowed, making 7 in total). Each entry needs to be signed and numbered and the edition number declared if appropriate. No further reproductions of the work can be sold or reproduced until after SAF declare that the artist’s participation in the competition is at an end.

2.5) All entries must be 2D works conforming to the dimensions given below. In particular sculpture, video, installation which is not 2 dimensional will not be accepted for judging. This year the entries are not limited to paintings but also include photography, digital imagery and other 2 dimensional mediums.

2.6) Dimensions of the entry (including any frame or mounting) should not exceed 150cm on any side and should not be and thicker than 5cm depth.

2.7) Entrants must be resident within Asia Pacific. There are however no limits on nationality and age although entrants must be practicing artists and have exhibited before.

2.8) All entries must be available for sale and remain so until the artists’ participation in the competition is at an end, as pronounced by SAF.

2.9) Not more than three submissions can be entered in per artist.

3) Submission Of Entries

3.1) Those who are nominated by the panel of advisors and nominators will go through to the first round of judging by the selected judges. Those that are received without nomination will go through a round of preliminary judging by an advisory board before being submitted to the judges.

3.2) For initial judging, a good quality digital image (or if this is not possible, a good quality photograph/transparency) together with the completed entry form must be submitted to the following email address:

3.3) All entries must arrive on or before 31 May 2008. and please upload the updated document attached.

4) Conditions of Entry

4.1) The top 30 entrants will be officially notified by email or post and the selected works must be delivered at the artist’s expense, as advised by SAF. All entries must be marked clearly on the reverse with the title of the piece, the entrant’s name and contact details.

4.2) The top 30 entries will be exhibited and publicised in an exhibition and catalogue. The SAF will, at its sole discretion, arrange media coverage and publicity of the exhibition.

4.3) The first prizewinning entry will become the property of SAF and dealt with as SAF should see fit.

4.4) Unless otherwise agreed by SAF, all intellectual property rights in or over the winning entry will become the property of SAF (apart from the originally declared limited edition prints referred to in rule 2.4 which have already been produced) and all image rights, rights to reproduce, rights to the resale of the entry itself and any reproductions of it will become the sole and unencumbered property of the SAF.

4.5) Announcement of the first prizewinner and public prizewinner will be made during the finalists’ exhibition or the finalists’ auction dinner.

4.6) SAF reserves the right to reproduce images of any entry, take photos, etc for any documentary, educational, publicity or other purpose.

5) Finalist Submission

5.1) Each entry should be authenticated by the artist (eg, signed and dated) in an appropriate place.

5.2) Each entry should be framed in order to protect and present the work. If the artist does not intend to exhibit the entry framed then adequate protection must be provided for the entry for storage and transport.

5.3) Any frames must be durable for handling purposes; unframed work should be suitably protected.

5.4) The organisers will be responsible for hanging fixtures and all frames, stretchers and work must be suitable for small screws and fixings for hanging purposes.

5.5) Composite entry must be presented within one frame.

6) Finalists' Auction

6.1) All 29 final entries selected for the Final Exhibition will be auctioned or otherwise sold by SAF with the proceeds being distributed to suitable charitable causes or retained to further the work of SAF. The artist will be entitled to receive 50% of the sale proceeds with the other 50% being retained by SAF.

6.2) The artist understands that in the event of his/her entry qualifying for the Finalists’ Exhibition and Auction, SAF will seek to obtain the best price possible for the entry. SAF is authorised to accept the highest offer it receives for the entry irrespective of the amount.

6.3) Any unsold works must be collected at the expense of the artist and any not collected will be left the discretion of SAF.
