History of the Sovereign Art Prizes



The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) was established in Hong Kong.
The first Sovereign Asian Art Prize was launched, culminating in a dinner for 70 people in Hong Kong.

The SAF Fellowship was established in conjunction with the Asian Cultural Council (affiliated with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund).


Expansion to London and launch of The Sovereign European Art Prize.


Launch of The SAF Students Prize in Hong Kong. The Students Prize invites secondary and tertiary level schools to submit three of the best artworks produced by students within the academic year.


The Students Prize expands to Bahrain in collaboration with Ibn Khldoon National School (IKNS), attracting over 800 entrants in the first year.​


The Students Prize is launched in Guernsey and Mauritius.


The Students Prize expands to Portugal, the Isle of Man and Singapore. The finalist exhibition for Singapore is presented at the second edition of the Singapore Contemporary art fair in January 2017.


The Students Prize is launched in Malta.
