Welcome to Charity!
Irene Bradbury
Since 1997 Irene Bradbury has been with the gallery, White Cube run by Jay Jopling with two locations in London and one in Hong Kong. During that time, as an Artist liaison and now a Director, she has worked closely with many of the artists that White Cube represents, overseeing numerous exhibitions as part of their programme and collaborated on many projects with curatorial colleagues in the museum or public institutional field. In spring 2008, Irene co-curated a group exhibition with the artist, Harland Miller based around Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories called ‘You dig the tunnel, I’ll hide the soil’ across two sites, Shoreditch Town Hall and White Cube Hoxton. In that same year, she curated a group exhibition ‘Every Eye Sees Differently as the Eye’ at the Drawing Room, London.
Since opening the Bermondsey galleries in 2011, Irene has led on a number of the ‘Inside the White Cube’ exhibitions – a platform for new artists at the gallery, notably with Kitty Kraus, Marcius Galan, Larry Bell, Eddie Peake and Michael Armitage. Last summer she curated the first online ‘Introductions’ exhibition with Minoru Nomata. In addition to her role at White Cube, Irene is currently on the Advisory Board of the Drawing Room, London and has previously worked on numerous independent projects. From 2010, she commissioned artworks for Sadler’s Wells Theatre working with Gary Hume, Lothar Hempel, Silke Otto-Knapp, Idris Kahn, Sam Taylor-Wood and Donna Huddleston. Prior to this (2005-8) Irene collaborated with Soraya Rodriguez (at that time, Director of Zoo Art Fair, London) running a curatorial agency called ‘The Great Unsigned’ and was a contributor of ‘MA stars’; a review blog of student degree shows for AXIS, a web-based directory of practicing artists in the UK.
