While we are all going into 2021 with a degree of uncertainty as to what lies ahead, this year has taught us how to take on unknowable challenges that may come our way.
Entries to The 2021 Sovereign Asian Art Prize have now closed. We received an overwhelming response from artists throughout Asia-Pacific – largely thanks to our 83 esteemed nominators, who selected the most talented mid-career artists from their regions to nominate for The Prize.
We are pleased to welcome 35 new nominators this year, helping us to further expand our reach in the search for Asia-Pacific’s best contemporary talent. Their fresh perspective and knowledge, coupled with the expertise of our long-standing nominators, enables us to run a successful Prize year on year. We will also soon be announcing our 2021 Judging Panel – once-again Chaired by writer, curator and museum director David Elliott.
Finalists will be announced in February 2021. With regards to presenting the shortlisted works to the public, Fine Art Asia and Art Basel [link to article] set the standard for what can be possible with a socially-distanced, physical art exhibition – and we hope to follow suit.
And while we can’t say more at the moment, upcoming projects in 2021 may make it our biggest and best year yet. Watch this space!
