MIB Programme Expands
Teaching kindergarten students the power of expressive arts
The MIB programme has broadened its reach to younger children since the beginning of the school year. In partnership with Yan Oi Tong Au Suet Ming Child Development Centre of the Polytechnic University, we aim to provide expressive arts programme to preschoolers from age 4-6. A total of 60 children with special education needs from 5 kindergartens have participated so far.
Principals and teachers have so far found the programme diverse and rich: with a dynamic and engaging use of music, movement, play and picture books. With the help of our art facilitators, teachers have noticed an increase in appreciation, respect, and social interaction among the children with their peers. The orientation video was particularly helpful for the parents to understand the MIB programme, further support their children at home, and make our online teaching more effective.
Through this programme we have seen that even toddlers can learn to be more responsible during online classes after much free expression and fun. Two activities they enjoyed the most were ‘The Ocean World’, using water and floating clay, and a ‘Ziplock colour palette’, active imagination to their own stories. Both projects allowed for sensational stimulation, wild expression and exploration beyond imagination!
