Visiting the Hong Kong Museum of Art
With generous support from The Friends of Hong Kong Museum of Art, The Sovereign Art Foundation organised a guided tour of the current Surrealism exhibit in early August for children aged 6-9. The tour was followed by a workshop entitled “Surrealism in Children’s Eyes”. This experiential art activity provided the children with an immersive introduction to Surrealism, an important stage in the development of Art History, accompanied by the exquisite collection from Centre Pompidou in Paris.
With over 100 works on display – featuring renowned artists from Salvador Dalí and René Magritte, to Joan Miró and Max Ernst – the children were able to explore how these Surrealist artists used diverse, newly invented techniques to break free from rationality and explore their unconscious mind. In observing these bizarre and dream-like masterpieces, we hoped to inspire the children to be experimental and daring in their own expressive art journeys.
