Art historian, curator, writer and art strategy consultant

Jiyoon Lee is an art historian, curator, writer and art strategy consultant. Alongside a PhD in Art History focusing on Impact on globalization on Asian contemporary art since 1989 from Courtault Institute of Art, and an MA in Museum & Gallery Management, she has had decades of experience working in the public, private and corporate cultural sector.

For the last 16 years, she has been one of the most active and influential curators in the cultural exchange between European and Asian contemporary art, producing more than 50 international exhibitions including high profile Biennales including Busan 2006, Liverpool 2008, and Venice 2009.

In 2003, she founded an independent curating office out of London called SUUM, that has attracted many high-profile clients for strategic creative consultancy from consumer electronics companies like Samsung and LG, to public government projects such as the London 2012 Olympics and Samsung Media Art Award with FT etc.

In 2014, she was appointed a director of MMCA Seoul, new branch in National Modern and Contemporary Art Museum where she served for three years introducing international collections and putting a global focus in an international exhibition programs.

Since, she has returned to SUUM and has continued to exercise her creative strategic consultancy running Hana Bank collection, one of the major bank collections. Alongside this, she is an adjunct professor at Yonsei School of Business, a regular contributor to Forbes Magazine and JoongAng Korean national newspaper, and a guest curator at the CAFA Museum in Beijing since 2018.
