I created this painting for my dad. Its complicated yet simple background drew me in instantly, and this was surprisingly one of my fastest paintings to complete. ‘Chipstead Lane’ is just outside Sevenoaks, England, in a neighbouring town called ‘Riverhead’, and is a very narrow street. It was amusing to me how such a small street could present as invitingly as it does here.

La Calle Comedia
School: Bayside Comprehensive School
Dimension: 90 x 70 cm
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Age: 16
The well-known location of this piece known as ‘La Calle Comedia’ is one of the most monumental places in Gibraltar solidifying social solidarity amongst many of those who grew up in that area. Each of them explaining their own personal experiences and childhood stories, reminding themselves and each other of the early times of their life whenever they get the chance to glance at this artwork. “La Calle Comedia” also known as Castle Street, was the location of a tennis court in the 18th century which was also used as a theatre. Visiting companies of Spanish singers and dancers would be staged at the theatre, thereby giving the street its popular name of Calle Comedia.

La Princesa in an empty room
School: Bayside Comprehensive School
Dimension: 42 x 59 cm
Medium: Charcoal, oil paints, chalk, oil pastels, and colourung pencils
Age: 17
This is a piece based on the famous painting ‘Las Meninas’ using the art style of Alberto Giacometti. The composition and theme of Albertos style is reflected, one person in a large, vague, empty room. She, for me represents a light in a dark place. The piece is a collage of different mediums using a mixture of oil paints, charcoal, chalk and pencils on water colour paper. This was one in a series of Las Meninas based pieces.

When creating this piece I took inspiration from artists of different time periods such as Rembrant, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Roy Lichenstein. Using these artists as inspiration I created a self portrait consisting of each artists signature styles to commemorate a theme of history and the changes of portraiture over time.

An acrylic painting inspired by James Kroner’s unique and distinctive style, mixed with my personal design to create a colourful composition of comparable colours. Kroner’s display of rural roads and derelict buildings incorporated itself into my piece, displaying a particular area in Gibraltar that is very special to me. The contrast of the loud city life and the serene church in the background was purposely interjected into my painting to show the variety of Gibraltar.

This photo captures the beauty of the Indian culture. It is an enchanting representation of diversity, power and colour. The bright pink of the sari and Bindi accompanied by her striking eyes form a powerful cultural image and is therefore one of my favourite photos.

La Sombra Del Deseo
School: Bayside Comprehensive School
Dimension: 31 x 31 cm
Medium: Digital
Age: 18
This digital piece was created as part of a project to design an album cover inspired by Las Meninas and Rosala’s El Mal Querer. Using photos from the album’s promo, I drew connections between the lyricism and themes of the album and La Infanta Margarita, blending classical art with modern music and visuals for a fresh interpretation.

Oil on wooden board. This piece depicts a night scene by Trafalgar Cemetery, where a bus is captured in a long exposure photo causing its movement to become blurred. The damp surroundings after a heavy rain cause the road to reflect the glow of nearby light sources and headlight trails from cars.

Renaissance Art meets Modern Media.
School: Westside School
Dimension: 50 x 33 cm
Medium: Plastic, paper, mod podge and water
Age: 16
I created this mixed media piece where I made myself look black and white to represent old art and renaissance statues whilst holding two phones in my hand both with color to represent social media. I was trying to create a contrast between classical art and modern technology, looking at the ideal beauty in Renaissance Art and obsession with social media. This piece was made using a plastic stop sign as the base, procreate to create the image, paper, mod podge and water to apply the paper to the sign and a wet sponge to dab down the modpodge onto the paper.

The church’s facade is detailed with intricate patterns, highlighted by the play of light and shadow created with layered pastels. The stained glass windows reflect the sunset’s hues, casting colorful glimmers onto the stone walls. In the foreground, a winding path leads to the entrance, dotted with flowers rendered in bright, cheerful colors.
