The Sovereign Portuguese Art Prize is proud to announce the launch of a new Women’s Prize, created to honour and support female contemporary artists in Portugal. This award is made possible in partnership with Sassy Women Society – a Portugal-based members’ club for creative, curious women, championing artistic expression, meaningful connection, and cultural dialogue.
Awarded annually to the highest-scoring female artist among the finalists (excluding the overall Grand Prize winner), the Women’s Prize recognises outstanding artistic achievement and aims to elevate the visibility of women artists in the region. The winner will receive a monetary award of €2,000 (final amount to be confirmed), along with dedicated visibility within the Sassy Women Society community – through curated experiences and storytelling platforms.
With a focus on quiet impact, creative leadership, and authentic community, Sassy Women Society brings together women who are shaping the future of culture and dialogue. Their commitment to amplifying female voices and fostering cultural exchange makes them an ideal partner for this significant new chapter in the Prize’s history.
Raluca Elena Rogoz, Founder of Sassy Women Society, said:
Since the beginning, our mission at Sassy Women Society has been to support and connect creative women – artists, thinkers, and cultural contributors – whose work deserves to be seen, heard, and felt. Art and culture are central pillars of our community, and this partnership is a natural extension of our commitment. We’re honoured to help bring greater visibility to women artists and contribute meaningfully to the Portuguese art scene.
Tanya Bennett, Portugal Manager of the Sovereign Art Foundation, added:
We are thrilled to introduce the Women’s Prize in partnership with Sassy Women Society. This award reflects our shared commitment to celebrating the incredible talent of female artists in Portugal and ensuring their voices are seen and heard. It is an honour to work with a partner so deeply aligned with the values of creativity, authenticity, and empowerment.
This marks the first year that the Sovereign Portuguese Art Prize will feature a dedicated Women’s Prize, further strengthening its mission to showcase, celebrate, and support contemporary artists across Portugal, while raising funds for programs that benefit disadvantaged children.
